About Us Emergency Certificate

Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel-one-time document, which is issued to Indian nationals who do not hold valid Indian passports and need to travel back to India. It is usually issued to persons detained by Australian authorities who are to be deported back to India AND to Indian nationals who wish to travel to India on an emergency basis.

For individuals travelling to India on an emergency basis, the individual has to apply for a new passport at the nearest Regional Passport Office before returning to Australia. Following Documents are required for processing E.C.

• E.C. will not be issued in the absence of any of the following documents.

• Application EC application form duly filled in and signed by the applicant. In case of minor, it must be signed by both parents.

• Original Indian Passport (If lost then provide photocopies of passport along with police complaint with the nearest police station)

• Copy of valid Visa

• Three recent passport-size photographs (2 inch x 2 inch)

• Proposed Travel Details with Iternary or copy of ticket

• Documents supporting reason for emergency

• Self-Addressed Envelope to dispatch the document to addressee

• A letter addressed to the High Commission/Consulate General requesting for EC, Containing the reasons therein for such a request. (The letter mucst contain: Passport number, current visa status, circumstances, an understanding for re- issue of passport from India and any other relevant disclosure). Affidavit duly filled in and attested by Justice of Peace Notary Public Affidavit duly filled in and attested by Justice of Peace Notary Public(8 KB)

Processing Time:  No processing time can be prescribed - it depends on time taken to verify Indian nationality.
